Captions that convert: pacing, contrast, and the 30% rule

By Scrippl Team · Jun 5, 2025 · 4 min read

The majority of short-form is watched on mute, which means your captions carry the whole message. Treat them as the primary channel, not a subtitle.

Three rules do most of the work: pace them to the voiceover word-by-word, keep high contrast against any footage, and sit them about 30% up from the bottom so UI chrome never covers them.

Scrippl bakes captions straight from the voiceover timings, so they're always in sync — this post covers the styling choices that make them read.
